THE CHALLENGE
The client, a municipal body in Germany, faced the significant challenge of preparing 3,000 employees to transition to a new state-of-the-art building featuring 28 floors and over 2,000 workstations. The shift to an Activity-Based Working (ABW) environment required employees to embrace new ways of working, including flexible workspaces and self-management principles.
The project needed to address varying levels of familiarity with ABW across the workforce, helping employees confidently navigate the space, understand its principles, and adapt their routines to a more dynamic, collaborative environment. The goal was to eliminate uncertainty, ease the transition, and ensure employees felt equipped to thrive in the new workspace.
STRATEGIC APPROACH
To meet the client’s objectives, we designed a multi-phased eLearning programme that was engaging, interactive, and practical. The solution blended education, exploration, and real-world application to deliver a seamless learning experience.
Key components included:
- Phase 1 – Foundations of Flexibility: An animated video introducing ABW concepts highlighting flexibility, adaptability, and personal responsibility.
- Phase 2 – Navigating the Space: A 360° virtual tour of the pilot area featuring clickable hotspots to explore zones (e.g., meeting rooms, focus spaces) with clear guidance on their use. Short employee testimonials shared relatable insights into navigating the environment.
- Phase 3 – Mastering ABW: Interactive, scenario-based learning where employees tackled real-world challenges—such as managing distractions or selecting spaces for specific tasks—with instant feedback.
- Phase 4 – Confident Integration: A final quiz to consolidate learning, complete with optional certification. Downloadable resources, including checklists and guidelines, ensured ongoing support post-training.
The program was built using modern eLearning authoring tools and delivered in SCORM format for seamless integration into the client’s Learning Management System (LMS).

Our tailored eLearning solution delivered tangible results, equipping the client’s workforce for the transition to ABW:
