Tertiary Education Institute | Activity-Based Work Portal

THE CHALLENGE
As part of relocating its School of Education faculty and staff, the institute faced the challenge of transforming a historic building—opened in 1962—into a workspace reflecting modern activity-based working (ABW) principles.
The project required a support portal to help students, lecturers, and administrative staff adapt to the new environment by addressing their varied needs.
The portal had to achieve several objectives: introduce users to the ABW framework, provide practical information about the building, and support navigation across the campus. Crucially, the solution needed to balance functionality with engagement, ensuring it appealed to a diverse audience and delivered a seamless user experience.
STRATEGIC APPROACH
We employed a structured and methodical approach to ensure the portal addressed its users’ functional and emotional needs. Our process included:
- Needs Analysis: Conducted stakeholder interviews and surveys to understand the unique requirements of students, lecturers, and administrative staff.
- User Journey Mapping: Designed user flows to identify key touchpoints and ensure smooth interactions with the portal.
- Iterative Design: Applied wireframing and prototyping to refine the portal’s structure and user interface, integrating feedback from stakeholders at each stage.
- Content Strategy: Developed a cohesive content framework prioritising relevance and clarity, ensuring each user group could access tailored information effortlessly.
- Testing and Validation: Conducted usability testing to optimise the portal’s navigation, accessibility, and overall experience before launch.
This methodical approach ensured that the institute’s goals and user expectations informed every design and content decision, delivering a robust solution.
IMPACTFUL DELIVERY
The ABW support portal successfully addressed the institute’s challenges, with key deliverables including:
- Intuitive Navigation: A streamlined interface that made accessing critical resources easy and efficient for all user groups.
- Interactive 3D Maps: Dynamic tools to help students and staff navigate the campus confidently.
- Tailored Content: Sections designed for specific user needs, covering ABW principles, building history, and real-time university updates.
- Cross-Device Compatibility: A responsive design ensuring accessibility across all devices.
- Enhanced Engagement: A visually appealing platform that encouraged interaction and improved user satisfaction.
By delivering a user-focused portal, we enabled the institute to transition seamlessly into its new ABW framework, fostering confidence and adaptability among staff and students. This project highlighted our expertise in creating innovative digital solutions tailored to organisational transformation.
