LARGE RETAIL ORGANISATION
AI Navigator Course
WHY
A large fashion and apparel retailer recognised that its workforce sat at very different points on the AI adoption curve. Some employees were actively exploring AI tools; many others had little to no experience and, in a number of cases, held genuine reservations about using AI, concerned about data privacy, job security, and the ethical implications of the technology.
Without a structured intervention, this uneven landscape risked widening the capability gap across the organisation, leaving teams inconsistent in how, and whether, they engaged with the company’s approved AI tools. The business needed a programme that could meet employees where they were: addressing scepticism honestly, building foundational knowledge with clarity, and establishing shared norms for safe, ethical, and productive AI use.
HOW
VSLS designed the AI Navigator Course, a self-paced Articulate Rise programme built to accommodate a wide range of starting points and learning styles. The course guided learners from foundational AI awareness through to practical application, using a blend of video content, varied interactions, and purpose-built AI simulations that let employees experience the technology in a low-stakes, guided environment.
The design prioritised psychological safety: content acknowledged common fears and misconceptions about AI directly, reframing resistance as a natural response to change and offering clear, evidence-based answers. Scenarios were grounded in the retail context, making the learning immediately relevant to day-to-day roles across the organisation. Navigation was intuitive, allowing employees to move at their own pace and revisit content as needed.
Deployment reached between 600 and 800 employees across the organisation, with the course hosted on the company’s existing learning management system for ease of access and completion tracking.
WHAT
The AI Navigator Course delivered measurable uplift across the organisation. Adoption rates were high, reflecting both the accessibility of the programme and its direct relevance to employees’ lived experience of the technology. Knowledge alignment improved significantly; teams that had previously operated with inconsistent or fragmented understanding of AI now shared a common language and clearer sense of boundaries and best practice.
Employees improved their confidence in using AI safely and ethically, and usage of the organisation’s approved AI tools increased, with staff better equipped to apply it effectively in their roles. The course established a strong foundation for continued AI capability development, positioning the organisation to build on this baseline as the technology and its applications continue to evolve.

AI SIMULATIONS & INTERACTIONS
At the core of the AI Navigator Course are purpose-built AI simulations that allow employees to interact with AI in a safe, guided environment, practising prompting, evaluating outputs, and understanding where human judgement remains essential. Combined with a range of interaction types including drag-and-drop, scenario branches, and reflection prompts, the course drives active engagement and promotes lasting behaviour change.
